2007 Thomson Healthcare Insight Awards Recognize Excellence in Performance Improvement

EVANSTON, IL — May 10, 2007 Thomson Healthcare, a business of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), recognized 11 hospitals for excellence in performance improvement with the presentation of the third annual Insight Awards. Winners of the 2007 awards were announced at a May 9 dinner held at the 2007 Thomson Healthcare Insight Conference, at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

"We are proud to recognize the hard work and dedication of these hospitals, and share in their success,” said Terry Cameron, executive vice president, provider decision support, Thomson Healthcare. "Each hospital recognized has used Thomson Healthcare solutions to positively impact organizational efficiency, clinical quality, and/or strategic planning and marketing.”  

The awards were given in four categories: clinical, operational, planning and marketing, and overall performance. The winners in each category are listed below.

St. John Health - Warren, Mich.
St. Tammany Parish Hospital - Covington, La.

The winner of the 2007 Insight Award for Overall Performance, Prince William Health System in Manassas, Va., used Thomson Healthcare tools and services, including The Solucient Polaris Suite, Clinical Insight Services, The Market Planner® Plus, and ACTION O-I® to reach its goals of decreasing costs and complications while increasing market share for hip and knee joint replacement procedures.  

Prince William used clinical and operational benchmarking combined with market share analysis to support and set goals for hip and knee joint replacement procedures. By using a systematic approach to data analysis, Prince William created a comprehensive view of the issues surrounding joint replacement procedures and deployed interventions that bridged the gap between finance, quality, and marketing, resulting in the development of a top quality total joint program.
