Thomson Healthcare Launches PDRhealth.com

Online Resource Brings Trusted Diagnostic and Prescription Information to Patients

Montvale, New Jersey — November 5, 2007 —Thomson Healthcare (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), publisher of the definitive drug resource for physicians, the Physicians' Desk Reference, today announced the launch of PDRhealth.com, an online health Web site for the more than 80 percent of consumers that use the Internet to search for health information.  Developed for consumers, PDRhealth.com is based on the same information platform that Thomson Healthcare uses to create the world's largest and most trusted database of prescription drug information, Physicians' Desk Reference. This drug information is paired with comprehensive diagnostic tools in the new PDRhealth.com, putting critical health information into the hands of consumers.

A powerful research tool, PDRhealth.com addresses a wide range of healthcare questions, from dangerous drug interactions to suggested treatments for specific disease diagnoses, making it an indispensable complement to the doctor/patient relationship.

Based on the medicine and drug information tools that Thomson Healthcare provides to physicians on handheld and desktop computers, the resources available on PDRhealth.com fill a void in the market for reliable, accessible, interactive healthcare information on the Internet.  Free of medical jargon, yet backed-up by a 60-year reputation of delivering trusted, authoritative health information, the new Web site empowers consumers to develop better, more informed communications with their care providers.

Among the user-friendly information resources featured on PDRhealth.com are the following:

  • Drugs & Supplements: Addressing thousands of brand-name and generic prescription drugs, over the counter drugs and herbal supplements, the PDRhealth.com drug database is widely recognized as a leading provider of information on drug interactions, side effects, dosages, and alternative therapies.  PDRhealth.com's interactive decision tools allow consumers to see the various treatment options associated with a particular drug protocol, arming them with information to take control of their healthcare.
  • Diseases & Conditions: The PDRHealth.com Diseases and Conditions information is indexed and searchable by diagnosis. In addition to providing valuable background information on the diagnosis itself, the site's interactive decision tools allow users to search common treatment options, explore clinical trials and look up drugs and supplements that treat the condition.
  • Online Health Tools: In addition to the decision support tools referenced above, a variety of health information research tools are provided on the site, including preventative resources such as the HDL and LDL cholesterol level risk factor analyzer.  Going forward, look for new tools such as a medication identifier which will contain a pictorial library of drugs to help identify pills and other medications amongst others.

In a recent survey of 1,600 physicians, Thomson Healthcare found that 70 percent of doctors cited increased patient access to healthcare information as having a positive impact on medicine in the past decade.  The new PDRhealth.com Web site is designed to give consumers the information they need to engage in an informed, active dialogue with their care providers.

"While a Web site can never replace an interaction with a healthcare professional, we believe that PDRhealth.com will become an indispensable complement to the healthcare professional/patient relationship," said Michael Deluca, PharmD, Strategic Marketing Manager, PDR.  "We're putting valuable, authoritative information in the hands of consumers to empower them to take an active role in their healthcare experiences."

PDRhealth.com is free to all users.  Individuals can also sign up to receive electronic newsletters, alerts on new clinical trials and any new information about prescription drugs.
