Insight: Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut
Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut has used the 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks for Success studies as one of many ways to analyze performance and clinical excellence. Nancy Hamson, director of planning at Greenwich Hospital, asked Professional Services to conduct a detailed analysis of their trended performance in the 100 Top National studies, and to identify opportunities for improvement at the service line and DRG levels.
The Solucient Clinical Professional Services group visited the hospital and presented the results of the analysis. "This was a valuable exercise for us," says Hamson. "It enabled our management team to identify specific areas and DRGs where we should investigate our use of resources and practice patterns. The trending was useful to track our performance and internal changes we have made as well as to reveal areas where we might consider further change."
Insight: AtlantiCare Health System in New Jersey
AtlantiCare Health System in New Jersey commissioned Solucient's Professional Services group to assess the efficiency of their cardiovascular services program, by comparing their performance in the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study to that of the benchmark winners.
A detailed analysis of their performance in invasive and non-invasive cardiology patients as well as open-heart cases was conducted using both Medicare and AtlantiCare's all-payer data. All 13 of the 100 Top Hospitals performance measures were utilized.
According to Ira Peezick, AtlantiCare's vice president of strategic planning, "This information revealed both our strengths and those areas where there are opportunities to reduce resource use and improve the quality of care. It will help us become a dominant player in cardiovascular care in Atlantic County."
